Gesamtkunstwerk is an expansive artwork featuring four distinct spaces with structures designed by artist and curator Ariel Baron-Robbins. Positioned within
Loop, an art space for group critiques and exhibitions, it resides in
Onland, a metaverse developed by the Art and Technology non-profit,
The MUD Foundation.
Loop Art Critique (LAC) takes a unique approach to art submissions, focusing solely on the artwork rather than the artist’s identity. Using a blind jurying process, artists submit five completed and five in-progress works. While this process may raise concerns about potential limitations in artist diversity, LAC mitigates this by assembling a rotating panel of judges with diverse expertise, backgrounds, and artistic preferences. Selected artists can choose to remain anonymous, opting not to use their real names or creating non-representational avatars. During critiques, some demographic details may emerge organically.
This experimental methodology has resulted in a diverse array of artists varying in age, gender, race, orientation, geography, and education. The artists featured in Gesamtkunstwerk were chosen based on their prior participation in Loop Art Critique. Each has showcased their work in the metaverse, standing out for their distinct individuality and creative vision, making them ideal contributors to this dynamic digital art exhibition.
